There Are More Natural Ways to Treat Eczema Symptoms

Eczema is a common skin ailment that can be incredibly annoying and uncomfortable. The eczema symptoms include red spots, dried skin, itching, and, in some cases, seeping. Outbreaks typically occur on the rear of the arms and hands, elbows and knees, and the top of the head and face.

What causes Eczema and the Symptoms that you should look for

One of the most important steps is to keep the skin hydrated. People are turning more and more to home remedies because commercial skin lotions and treatments tend to aggravate rather than heal the problem. Commercial skin lotions usually have chemicals that can trigger an outbreak and make it worse.

A variety of home remedy options are available. Home remedies have natural ingredients that sooth and heal the skin. They help to keep the skin hydrated and also protect the skin from bacteria. Here is a list of natural remedies and skin treatments.

Oatmeal
Oatmeal is one of the best natural remedies. Oatmeal sooths the irritated skin and inflammation and also helps to keep the dried skin hydrated. The four basic components of oatmeal are polysaccharides, proteins, saponins, and fats. Polysaccharides are complex sugars. Water breaks the complex sugars down creating a gel-like substance. The gel-like substance forms a protective layer that keeps the skin hydrated. The fats in the oatmeal also keep the skin hydrated as well. The proteins protect the skin against allergens and other irritating substances. Saponins are a natural cleansing agent.

Oatmeal lotions and other products are available on the market but the easiest thing to do is to soak in an oatmeal bath. Grind 4 cups of oatmeal into a powder. Add the oatmeal to warm bath water. Soak in the bath for 15 minutes.

Natural Cleanser
Regular cleansing is an important step is keeping eczema under control. Soap and other cleaning agents, however, are often too harsh. They tend to irritate and dry out the skin and make outbreaks of eczema worse. A natural alternative is to make a skin cleanser with slippery elm bark, comfrey root, and white oak. Slippery elm has tannins that function as a natural antibiotic. Comfrey root is an anti-inflammatory that helps that sooths and heals the skin. White oak is a source of zinc and vitamin B12.

Combine 1 teaspoon of each ingredient with 2 cups of water. Bring the water to a boil and then allow it to simmer for 30 minutes. Pour the mixture through a strainer to strain out the solid bits.

Other Natural Skin Treatments

Coconut Oil
Coconut oils sooths and heals the skin. Simply apply the coconut oil to the irritated areas. Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer that keeps the skin hydrated.

Cold Water Compresses
Cold water is one of the best ways to quickly improve the condition of the skin. Apply a wet washcloth to the affected regions. Drinking an adequate amount of water everyday is important for keeping the skin healthy and hydrated as well.

Sunlight
Exposure to sunlight eliminates the bacteria on your skin. 15 minutes of sun exposure, without a sunscreen or sun-blocking agent, will improve the condition. Avoid longer periods of exposure without protection.
